Boss Mechanics

The Lancer's Reach

Chang Hong owns the longest melee reach in the town arc: lance thrusts that out-space every sword in the game, charging lines that punish standing still, and thunder-flavored flash attacks layered into both. Static guard loses here twice — the reach chips through it and the drains empty it.

Closing the Gap

The fight is a spacing curriculum: close behind his thrust recovery, never during his charge wind-up. His thrusts commit him — the recovery after a whiffed thrust is the safest damage window in the fight.

Step-by-Step Strategy

Step-by-Step

Play the spacing game: sidestep or dodge the thrusts (directional dodges, not backsteps — you need to stay in punish range), parry the clean blue-flash thrusts, and answer whiffed charges with your heaviest strings. Switch-reset between phrases; his Sha-Chi pool is officer-grade.

A second weapon with a fast gap-closer (the one-handed slot) makes the reach game dramatically easier — swapping in also interrupts his pressure with your new weapon's quick attack.
