Quick Answer: What Are Phantom Edges?
Phantom Edges are your second equipment pair โ two side weapons that run on their own resource (Remnant Spark) and their own attack button (R2 on controller). The official count is over 20 unique Edges, "wrested from the hands of fallen foes": bosses drop them (Wan Jun's Bashpole, the Drunken Sword from its master), and the family spans bows, hand cannons, axes and hammers โ there are no non-blade primary weapons, so Edges are where all the ranged and heavy oddities live.
| Edge | Source | Behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Bashpole | Dropped by Wan Jun, the Coppermaul | Slow, heavy hammer strikes โ boss-grade stagger damage |
| Drunken Sword | Boss drop (drunken-fist master) | Rewards last-second dodges into heavy counters; Soul staggers drunkenly between strings |
| Hunter's Chain Sickle | The Hunt rematch (Sixfold Scythe) | Combo-ender yanks enemies toward you; unlocks chain-swing traversal |
| Dread Axe | Progression drop | Breaks chain barriers; level-5 ability: double-tap R2 plus two Remnant Sparks for an instant fully charged strike |
| Feather Bow | Purge the Sect side quest | Ranged pressure for the many fights melee cannot reach |
How Edges Fit the Combat Loop
Phantom Edge attacks (R2) consume Remnant Spark, so they are burst buttons, not rotations: a charged strike on a boss recovery, a bow shot at an archer, a hammer stagger to break a formation. The resource discipline mirrors Sha-Chi โ spend Spark when it converts to a guard break or a kill, rest at Bells to refill. Certain abilities and accessories recoup Spark mid-fight, and the game flags free casts with a distinct counter prompt. Treat your Edge pair as the answer to the two questions melee cannot solve: reach and raw stagger.
Collection Notes for Completionists
Edges upgrade exactly like primaries โ Remnant Dust plus materials, with milestone abilities at levels 5, 10, 15 and 25 โ but they use their own revert consumables past level 10/20, separate from standard weapons' talismans. Drops are boss-tied: if a guide says an Edge comes from a boss, that boss is your farm. The Edge count toward full completion is tracked in your inventory, and several traversal routes (chain-swing paths) stay locked until the right Edge is in your bag.
