Wraiths - Enemy Guide & How to Fight

Area: Pangzhen

Combat Trait: Ethereal duelists — phase pressure

Counter Approach: Dodge discipline over blocking

Where You Meet Them

Pangzhen's haunted side belongs to wraiths — vengeful spirits with Gu Wanyue, the Wailing Wraith as their named boss. Where the town's human and construct enemies play guard games, wraiths play rhythm games: long phase-pressure strings that punish the habit of hiding behind guard.

How to Fight Them

Blocking a wraith string is a Sha-Chi donation — guard stance drains your gauge every second you hold it, and their chains keep hitting long after a normal enemy would have stopped. The counter is footwork: directional dodges (R1 with a stick direction) carry you through the strings without spending Sha-Chi, and every dodge you stick sets up your next combo. Treat their attacks the way you treat red-flash attacks — as movement problems, not guard problems.

Redirect Force — the ability that refunds Sha-Chi on clean parries and dodges — is the single biggest quality-of-life purchase against wraiths. Two Blackstones unlock it.

Drops and Value

Wraiths drop spirit-grade materials that feed the late crafting tiers. Their real value is training: Gu Wanyue is the game's thesis on why the dodge button outranks the guard button, and the lake country's duels assume you learned it.
